SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

[The trickster's finally a king! Well, a king in the sense of being a senior in the Academy. Beyond that, though, he's still everyone's favourite annoyance trickster.

He leans against one of the refreshment tables with a small grin in place as he looks out at all the new victims faces. He is definitely going to leave a lasting impression this year. However, when told not to do something, he has a tendency to want to do it. So when he was told not to slip vodka into the punch bowl, well... Someone can catch him or just bump into him for a chat!]

Katherine stared out at the auditorium, a bored look on her face. She didn't understand why they insisted on throwing a Welcome party every year. At least she was an upper class-man this year, and she had to put in an appearance, no matter how boring these parties were.

There were some people that the class divisions didn't matter to. One of those was, unfortunately, Jack Harkness. He saw a pretty or handsome face, and there he was. Meet-and-greets were his favorite sporting event.

"Well, hello there."

Movie star smile in place, Jack wasn't shy about looking her over and liking what he saw. Why be coy? He never saw the use in it. It cut out a lot of awkward fumbling in his opinion.

"I'm Captain Jack Harkness."

Just what he was captain of was anyone's guess.

Hannibal Lecter | Hannibal Rising

Hannibal Lecter shifted his small pack to the other shoulder as he looked around the room. So this was his new home. When it came to the Academy and how it had been touted to him, Hannibal hadn't grown to like or dislike it. It was a place like any other that he would be at no matter how he felt on the matter.

Unlike some of the other new students, it wasn't a lack of courage that held Hannibal back from joining the fray but a need to study before entering. His maroon eyes moved over the other faces, memorizing them to judge them. He wandered from there towards the table of pamphlets and signup sheets, reading them over for anything that might spark his interest.

Hannibal wasn't the only one studying the other students from afar before approaching. Something about Hannibal caught his attention and he wasn't quite sure what. Whether it was the unease he felt that another student was equally keen on observing yet not being observed or the fact that he actually seemed to be succeeding in his endeavour.

Stefan walked up beside him, reaching for the same pamphlet Hannibal had picked up. "Huh. Interesting subject. Are you into the culinary arts?" He asked as he eyed the pamphlet for cooking enthusiasts.

Allison's pleased to have survived her first year. She is, of course, keen on establishing an archery club. Not everyone trains with this weapon, and she supposes it would be nice to have some recreational activities along with the usual school stuff.

You'll find her handing out pamphlets and gathering signatures and email addresses before she takes it to the officials.

Kate, in turn, was moving into her third year, so she was making her way around rather confidently, greeting old friends and finding her bearings once again. The idea of an archery club caught her eye, though; considering she had little experience in it herself, she couldn't help but really like the idea.

Accepting one of the pamphlets with a smile, Kate pages through it, her eyes drifting quickly over the words. "This is a really great idea. You think they'll go for it?"

Natasha Romanoff | MCU

As a returning third year, Natasha's a little less impressed by the surroundings than she had been her first time around but still no less excited to be here. As much as she loves summers and spending a few months with her dad, she loves being here, being around her friends all the time. Even if there is homework involved, which she could honestly do with less of, but who couldn't?

She's got herself a drink and a plate of snacks balanced on her knee as she'd been lucky enough to nab one of the chairs lining the edges of the room. Which gives her an awesome location to scope out all the fresh meat new students who were busy orienting themselves for what was probably going to be one of the craziest years of their lives.

Her roommate last year had been a psychic. She knew this for a fact.

And when she's not sitting and watching, she's up and bouncing between the crowds of new and returning students, catching up with friends she hasn't seen in too long and meeting the new ones that seemed interesting enough to catch her eye. She's friendly and laughing, thoroughly enjoying playing the social butterfly. Maybe this year she'll make some friends who don't treat the word 'party' like a bad word and remember to drag their noses out of their books once in a while...

"Hey!" Gwen said smiling brightly at Natasha as she took a seat next to her friend, her own plate of food and drink in hand. It had been a nice summer but she was glad to be back at school, for her friends and the actual school part.

Although Myka is a fourth year, her familiarity with the campus and student body hasn't made her all that outgoing. In reality, she is happy to be back after the break; there is only so long she can listen to Tracy talk about cheerleading or school dances, and only so long she can tolerate her father grumping around and acting like nothing she does is good enough. Being back at the Academy is a breath of fresh air in comparison, but one wouldn't think so just by looking at her.

For the time being, Myka is curled up in a seat in the corner of the auditorium, an open book in her lap and her glasses perched on the end of her nose as she leisurely pages through the tome in front of her.

Bucky has taken an entire bowl of pretzels.

It's his first year here, though he's a sophomore; he'd rather not talk about freshman year, but then, most freshman years are rough, right?

The bowl of pretzels is placed down beside Myka, and Bucky sits in the seat on the other side of the pretzels, giving her space, but clearly curious about her. He knows better than to interrupt a woman reading, though-- it's rude as hell-- so he tries to not be too overt about his curiosity about the person reading in a deafeningly loud room.

Bobbi is, first and foremost, a scientist a heart, an ace student, and an excellent researcher for someone so young. (Not to mention a competitive gymnast.) When it was time for her the other year to finally make a decision on her future, she chose the academy over the science high school, deciding to find a customized balance between academics and training.

Home is home. She remains distant from her family, her brother, and is honestly happy to be back at school.

Bobbi is, as always, a mix between nice and intimidating, slowly making rounds about the room.

Natasha bumps into the other girl not far from the snack table. She doesn't know her really well, but they do share gymnastics together and it's enough of a link that Tasha doesn't mind welcoming her back.

Then again, Natasha spent most of the summer on her own or with her dad, so she's just glad to be getting her social life back.

Ororo's a senior this year, and is likely up to her neck in extra-curricular activities. She does like to keep busy and productive and helpful. And while she normally tends to keep to herself (she's been told she's a tad intimidating), today she makes an effort to mingle. In particular, she's making her rounds around freshmen and newcomers alike, welcoming them to the school with a friendly smile and an offer to answer any questions they might have.

But mingling can get kind of tiring, after a point. So 'Ro is just as likely to be getting some air by a window or straying outside for some fresh air (it's so crowded inside!) to recharge a little bit before heading right back into all the activity. Feel free to catch her either way!

By a window is likely where Tommy meets Ororo. He's topping up his glass of juice with something decidedly less innocent and slightly more potent when he hears someone coming, and hastily screws the lid back on his flask and shoves it back in his blazer pocket before turning around.

"Hi there. You need some fresh air, too? There's a lot more people here than I expected."

If he keeps talking, maybe he can distract her from thinking too much about any odd behaviour.

Tommy Merlyn | Arrow

Tommy's a new transfer to the second year, only having discovered his weirder abilities over the summer. Still, it's not like he's left anything at his old school he'd really miss, and he'd been on the verge of being expelled anyway, even with his dad's bribes, so a fresh start might not be the worst thing in the world.

The auditorium might be crowded, but he's rich, relatively good-looking, and a pretty friendly guy, used to being at least near the centre of attention, so crowds don't really scare him all that much. He'll be around, probably where the most people are, chatting like he's an old hand at this. It's not too different from some of his dad's corporate events, or some of the parties he's sneaked into with Ollie, after all.

That, or he's surreptitiously adding booze to his punch in an out of the way spot somewhere.

Wanda was awash in new faces. She had lost track of her brother shortly after entering the auditorium (unsurprisingly), and now she was wandering around, alone and more than a bit uncomfortable in the crowed. Picking up, then putting down pamphlets without reading them. Sticking near the walls, her eyes were wide and scanning.

There had to be somebody friendly here... right?

Friendly? Yeah, sure, we can go with that. Loki spotted a new face and that face... reminded him strikingly of a deer caught in headlights. Despite that, she looked interesting as compared to the rest in the room. He didn't mingle much with other years, but certain interesting cases helped him break his pattern.

He came up behind her, but didn't touch her. You never knew how some of these people would react or with what kind of defences they would react, so it was always best to be safe.

Gwen Stacy| The Amazing Spider-Man

Gwen was probably one of the only ones in the room actually excited to be back at school not just to see her friends, but also for classes to start. She had spent the summer interning at Oscorp and was excited to put some of the things she learned there to use in the lab this year.

She was also running for student government and had spent a few minutes when she got to the party hanging up some posters and handing our flyers. It was never too early to start campaigning, and this would look great on college applications.

The rest of the party she can be found mingling with her friends or if someone asks her out on the dance floor.

Gwen, you are not the only one glad to be back. Leeloo is enthusiastic to be here too! 'Home' for her is too quiet and soft and lacks friends and adventure. Things miss Leeloo rather enjoyed.

But she also kind of missed the classes and activities. Mostly she missed the people.

Seeing Gwen pressing a poster up on a wall she seemed to bounce over, sliding in beside her and... looking it over. Reading it out loud, then smiling huge. "Starting your..." what was the word... oh, right... "campaign a bit early, aren't you?" it's not a snide question, just a honest one.

Leeloo deSebat | The Fifth Element

Leeloo was excited to be back. As much as she loved Cornelius for taking care of her, the monastery was far too quiet for her tastes. She hated to hurt his feelings as well, so she did her best to be calm, focus, study, relax... but sometimes she wanted to go do something fun and reckless. At least being in school she could see her friends well as be... well, loud.

She can be seen chatting with friends, or mingling from here or there. Asking about how summer went for others or if anyone had done anything interesting. Leeloo loved a good story and anything had to be better then how she spent most of this summer.

"Oops!" Natasha bumps into the other girl on her way through the room, stopping to grin at her in greeting when she realizes who she just jostled.

"Sorry about that, Leeloo. This place is a madhouse, isn't it? Glad to be back yet?"

Felicity Smoak --> Arrow

A party was the last thing Felicity was expecting for orientation and honestly it throws her out of her element much more than she'd like to admit. She knew she should have straightened her hair and wore a better dress, instead she was just in one of her usual skirts and flats. She didn't even have lipstick on.

Quickly, she descends on the snack table looking for coffee and praying that the music won't last forever. It's not really her favorite type and she'd like to be able to hear people coming up behind her if anyone decided freshmen hazing was the way to spend their evening.

"You look exactly like the sort of young woman who would enjoy this."

A hot pink flyer for Mathletes is suddenly thrust into Felicity's view. Follow the arm all the way to the petite young woman in the designer minidress and heels smiling her way.

"We've got openings, though the competition is pretty fierce. Unless Science Club is more your speed?" The hot pink flyer is put back in her little stack, and a teal flyer offered instead.

Tommy Shepherd // Marvel 616

Tommy, as usual, can't stay in one place, so he darts in and out of the crowd timing his landings perfectly between beats in whatever song is playing just for fun. There's a lot of familiar faces around, as well a new ones and he's mostly just glad that the school will be full again and he can interact with more people than just the summer boarders like himself.

It's so much easier to get away with things when there are more students that could have been the perpetrator.

Loki can share those sentiments completely. He's been mingling about with ease, pretending to be the social butterfly that he puts on because it's just so much easier that way, but from time to time he does notice the blurry streak of the snow-topped speedster, only with thanks to his own enhanced perception.

Loki had taken note of a pattern in Tommy's brief stops and landings as having to do with the beat of whatever song was playing at the moment, whether it had been a conscious device for amusement to Tommy or a subconscious act. With predictions of a mental capacity far above human, he positioned himself at a predicted stop given Tommy's trajectory. He was smirking lightly and holding one of the punch bowl cups out when the zippy mutant came to a brief landing.

Lydia Martin | Teen Wolf

Of course Lydia is at the Open House, looking fierce as ever. At the moment she's got two crisscrossed stacks of flyers as she makes her way to the activity tables. One for Science Club, one for Mathletes. They're nestled carefully in the crook of her arm, the other is absently twined into a lock of strawberry blonde hair. At least until she gets to the respective club tables, offering a grin to those who loiter there before she turns on her heel to regard the incoming students, both familiar faces and new.

"I see you're not wasting any time," Natasha observes with a crooked grin when she wanders past Lydia and her stacks of fliers, pausing to arch an eyebrow. "Have you already scouted out the fresh meat?"

Gale Hawthorne | The Hunger Games

Another year, another welcome party. Gale didn't see much point in it; it generally seemed to leave a lot of the freshmen looking more overwhelmed than anything, and frankly, it got tiring seeing the same stuff every single year. He hardly even glanced at most of the pamphlets being shoved at him, though a few of the new clubs and classes managed to catch his eye.

After a visit to the refreshments table, he walked around the hall for a bit, not really being sociable but at least pretending to. Once that got boring enough, he'd just stay out of the way or head outside to get away from the crowd.

"It'd be more realistic if you stopped to talk with people."

Maya was sitting on one of the tables, songbook balanced on her knees but she wasn't writing at the moment. She was looking right at Gale as she threw her voice. Her lips weren't moving but the room had enough noise for her to do this. Most of the people from last year were aware of her... quirks.

Maya wasn't really bothered too much by the gaps in grades, this mostly had to do with the fact that she heard a lot with her powers and generally it just didn't feel that important. But she didn't have anything else to say, but from how weary she looked the room was probably a bit too... active, for her.

Maya Matlin | Degrassi

Maya attempted to look social, the problem is that with new people was they assumed the headphones were her being anti-social. ...And eventually she got bored and started talking without moving her mouth. Or making it look like she's badly dubbed.

Look, eventually anyone would get bored with people giving her dirty looks for her headphones.

Now she was sitting on the archery team's table writing sheet music, not even bothering with the new freshmen. Or any of the people from last year she didn't have some positive experience with. She kinda... had some issues end of last term, but she's over them now and just wants to move on.

Johnny Blake | The Dark Knight Rises

[ Johnny hadn't honestly expected to make it at SHIELD Academy this long, but by way of some serious amount of luck, he's staring down his junior year and he's actually got a relatively clean slate, all things considered.

Lingering on the periphery of the open house, Blake watches the room with the same sort of hawkish attentiveness he's always maintained. There are a lot of familiar faces — the academy isn't quite large enough for him to lose track — but he can't help noticing the first years awkwardly mingling around.

At some point, he scoffs around the licorice he's been chewing (in lieu of a cigarette) and shakes his head as he pushes off of the wall. ]

Man, I was never that clueless...

[ Natasha pops up at his side out of nowhere, having just gotten back into the room after escaping the crowds for a little bit. Even she can only take so much socializing at a time. She grins at him impishly. ]

I seem to recall you being pretty clueless your first day here.

Elsa is anxious. Having transferred in for her third year after years of home schooling - along with the incident she would rather not discuss - she is ill at ease around all these people, adjusting her gloves every few minutes, just to make sure they're still there. It isn't too late to receive help, they told her. What's more important is that it would keep her away from Anna. It was wrong, she knows, not to grieve with her sister over their parents, but she can't allow herself to be around her when she can't control her powers.

She holds her head high, shoulders squared, but she still keeps to the edges of the crowd, perhaps reaching for some food on occasion, but otherwise trying to blend in. Which is difficult when you have shockingly blonde hair and the air tends to chill around you.

The chilled air around her didn't even seem to bother Loki, if he even noticed it. He'd always found he preferred cooler temperatures, but it never struck him as odd at all. However, new faces were always so much fun. He'd picked her out of the crowd and watched her a bit before sliding up next to her.

"Don't be so obvious. You'll attract attention." He teased lightly with a pleasant smile. "You're new. Welcome to Boot Camp for the Abnormally Inclined. I'm Loki Odinson. Allow me to be your guide for this evening." He put on a completely mock tour guide voice in what he hoped was lighthearted humour to break the ice so to speak.

James "Bucky" Barnes

Sure, he was a second year in age, but Bucky was definitely new.

He was getting taller quickly, and filling out almost as quickly; he was only a little gangly, but throughout the party it was clear he was a little bit baby-giraffe in his spacial awareness.

Unaware of anything extraordinary about himself, Bucky is interested in anything he sees that seems at all unusual, and seems quite gregarious, though every so often he seems to drop out of a conversation for a moment.

Jean Grey | 616

Jean could tell from the moment she walked into the room that she had made a mistake. She had been told "orientation," as such she had notebook, pen, student handbook and planner in hand when she walked into what was clearly a party of some sort.

Feeling more than a little embarrassed at walking in looking like the nerdy new girl, Jean looked around for someone to talk to, in hopes of salvaging the situation.

{Not exactly off to a roaring start Jean,} she thought to herself.

Spotting a tall, slightly awkward but pleasant looking boy Jean summoned up her courage and approached. "Hello, I'm Jean. Grey." after an awkward beat she added, "Sorry I'm new here and I wasn't sure what to expect. Maybe you can rescue me from social embarrassment..." she faltered unsure what to say next. Being the new girl wasn't something she was accustomed to.

Felicia Hardy | The Amazing Spiderman

Felicia entered the room, stopping momentarily in the doorway, hand on her hip, to glance around the room- and, more importantly, to be glanced at. She sized up the student body through the periphery of her vision. Her face, a mixture of alluring mirth and disinterested boredom, revealed none the fierce intellect with which she measured her fellow students.

Once she had been sufficiently ogled, Felicia made her way over to the refreshment table, picked up a drink and lingered, awaiting the first tactless pickup attempt of the evening. It was time to familiarize herself with her new surroundings; determine the social hierarchy, and assert dominance. High School was a jungle and Felicia, a lioness.

Sam Yao | Zombies, Run!

Sam does not want to be here. Not really. He wants to be back at his normal school with his normal friends and okay, maybe he's also a little homesick but he's sixteen now! Can't let that show. But after his little incident with the hacking and the classified files, he hadn't really been given much choice.

His dad still wasn't talking to him anyway.

Most of the students seem to know each other already too which doesn't make him feel any more comfortable, what with coming in for second year, so he keeps to the edges of the room

The incident hadn't been one of their best moves, but it'd seemed like a... well, "good" is a strong word, but it was something he'd been willing to do, something he'd wanted to do with his brother. They've been stepping down different paths for a while now, and things are even more different now with this business with Kevin and his... headaches, with his nosebleeds, with his being able to read whatever language he put in front of him in a few hours or days, depending. It's not like it doesn't cost him something, too, but to his parents, that's some kind of noble sacrifice.

He's afraid to know what any of that means to his brother, but Kevin figures as shitty as it is to be in a spotlight that he sometimes worries is tearing holes in his brain or something, it has to be shitty to be the guy who gets second place because he can't headache his way into understanding Ancient Greek.

What was supposed to be a bonding experience in hacking turned out to be more of a bonding experience than either of them bargained for, and Kevin hopes that this place won't just make Sam feel even more... out of place.

"Hey." It's not too hard to find Sam in the crowd. Kevin isn't really flanked with friends either.

"What do you think so far?"

Virginia Potts | MCU

[It's incredibly difficult to not feel overwhelmed as she looks around the auditorium. Although Virginia is in her third year, she's a new transfer, a total stranger in a crowd of friends, and probably as lost as most of the freshmen running around. This is a chapter of her life she never asked for, but she's here now; she has to be, and all she can do is try and make the most of it.

So after some awkward staring and trying to decide where to begin, Virginia begins moving to the tables, checking out displays, and trying to get a feel for this school in general. She'd been an ambitious student with a lot of determination before. She refuses to let what's happened take that away from her now.]

[Rhodey was currently taking a break from working at Club booths (he’d moved from Football to a few other clubs) and had gathered a few club fliers, not really to join anything but to see what others were doing and how. So much for getting away from the booths, huh? He plucked up a flier at a booth where a red head was standing. Didn’t matter what it was, he was collecting.]

[For a moment he wondered if he cut in, thus he drew back, giving a smile.] Sorry about that. [she didn’t look like a freshmen though. He tilted his head before saying] Are you new here?

Sam Wilson || MCU

Sam's not really a party person, not like this anyway, so the crowds are starting to get to him. He's on the periphery of the crowds, mostly, looking for the few familiar faces he expects to find and smiling at people he doesn't know. Someone's gotta keep an eye out for the newcomers after all, make sure no-one takes too much advantage of them.

He's also got a handful of flyers for first aid courses and a couple of the sports teams, baseball and athletics, just in case he spots anyone likely.

Lydia Martin has a hand on one hip, an arched brow, and a double stack of flyers in her hand.

"If you're not in Mathletes this year, I'm going to cry. Do you want that on your conscience?"

MJ doesn't have any fliers or plans to rope people into a club or gang or acapella group-- although that would be fun but maybe some other time. Not happening tonight. Tonight is all about catching up with her friends from last year and making new ones and having a good time. Chatting, dancing, hearing a nice long winded story about this club or that one, she doesn't care. Because the summer was awful, thanks for asking. She doesn't want to dwell on it anymore so please drop it and while she loves the city but she actually kinda missed this place.

It's more home than anything for a girl who doesn't really have one.
