SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

Ororo's a senior this year, and is likely up to her neck in extra-curricular activities. She does like to keep busy and productive and helpful. And while she normally tends to keep to herself (she's been told she's a tad intimidating), today she makes an effort to mingle. In particular, she's making her rounds around freshmen and newcomers alike, welcoming them to the school with a friendly smile and an offer to answer any questions they might have.

But mingling can get kind of tiring, after a point. So 'Ro is just as likely to be getting some air by a window or straying outside for some fresh air (it's so crowded inside!) to recharge a little bit before heading right back into all the activity. Feel free to catch her either way!

By a window is likely where Tommy meets Ororo. He's topping up his glass of juice with something decidedly less innocent and slightly more potent when he hears someone coming, and hastily screws the lid back on his flask and shoves it back in his blazer pocket before turning around.

"Hi there. You need some fresh air, too? There's a lot more people here than I expected."

If he keeps talking, maybe he can distract her from thinking too much about any odd behaviour.

Ororo notices the odd movements and the almost suspicious expression on his face - but so long as he wasn't actually causing any trouble, she couldn't really call him out for anything. So she lets it slide. Anyway, tonight was supposed to be about fun, right?

"It does feel like that, doesn't it?" She settled for a friendly smile, running a hand through her hair. "I think the administration must have doubled their recruitment efforts this year or something like that. There are so many new faces..."

Friendly he can live with. He smiles back, taking a cautious sip of his drink.

"Including mine. You know, I'm pretty sure my dad thought this school was going to be small and exclusive. Not that I'm complaining, or going to tell him otherwise."

More people meant less chance of getting caught out, after all. And it meant more chance of finding partners in crime, and pretty girls who hadn't heard of him.

"It is a bit exclusive though," Ororo says, shrugging. "But not for the same reasons most exclusive schools are, anyway. With all the things people are capable of here, it'd be a bit hard to keep track of everything if the student body were so big. As you can imagine, things can get pretty lively around here."

"Yeah, I think my dad had mingling with the future business leaders of America in mind, not making friends with 'vigilantes'." His voice goes very dry on the last word, quoting his dad's likely reaction to most of the people here and their probable future. "Like I said, I'm not complaining."

He raises his glass in a kind of one-sided toast, and then takes a swig of it. "I'm guessing lively might be an understatement, given some of the things the student handbook says."

"Ororo!" Natasha calls out to her when she spots the older girl not that far away, heading for one of the doors. She squeezes between two seniors and pops up beside her with a bright grin. "Making your escape already? And without me? I'm hurt."

"Natasha," Ororo raises her hand in a friendly wave. "Hello to you, too. And no, of course not - never without you." She shoots Natasha a sincere smile. Well, she could have slipped out any time she wanted. But it was less fun escaping alone, and she still had a lot more people to meet and greet.

When Natasha comes close enough, Ororo opens her arms for a quick hug. "How was your summer?"

"Boring," Natasha confides with a heartfelt mournful sigh as she all but collapses into that hug, grinning playfully. "I was bored to tears. Almost literally. I'm so glad to be back. What about you?"

"Uneventful," which was just a nicer way of saying boring, but Ororo was nothing if not diplomatic, "I'm glad school's started. It's nice to see everyone again - and so many new faces, too! I think we'll be pretty busy this year."

"So my roommate last year declared," Natasha chuckled, looking amused. She hadn't run into the psychic she'd shared quarters with last year yet, but she was assuming she was here somewhere. "I don't care, I could use a little excitement."

"I think we all could," Ororo agreed, shaking her head. "Most people around here get cabin fever when there isn't anything interesting going on, and considering how people here tend to deal with boredom..." She shrugged, sighing. This wasn't exactly a normal high school where pranks were usually harmless.

"In any case - do you have any plans for the year yet? Any particular clubs you wanted to join or something?"

"Probably the same ones I usually do, honestly," Natasha confesses with a lift of one shoulder, looking thoughtful. "Dance and martial arts keeps me pretty busy, and when I'm not in one of those, I dabble in the gymnastics one to help those. I dunno, though. I might add one just for fun this year. No idea what, though. What about you?"

"Student government will probably keep me busy this year, I think. But I thought, maybe the language club..." Ororo shoots Natasha with a hopeful smile. "If you'll come with me, of course. It might be fun, what do you think? Maybe?"

Natasha grins at that and inclines her head as if she's pondering it a moment. "I might be able to be persuaded into that one. Who needs free time?" she teases. "Is there a particular language you're interested in?"

"Lady Ororo!"

Despite the fact that Sif has been here at this school for four years, there are some Asgardian customs she will never shake, especially after freshly arrived from the other realm, where such polite niceties are expected.

Still despite the polite words, Sif's tone is bright and happy to see the other senior as she wanders up to her. "Good day to you!"

Ororo felt heat creep up her cheeks. It was always nice, but strange, hearing the Asgardians speak like that. She does bow her head a little bit in greeting as Sif draws closer though, smiling at her fellow senior.

"And to you, Sif," Ororo waved the hand that wasn't holding onto any fliers. "And please, it's just Ororo." Or 'Ro, or 'Roro, but it's hard enough getting her to drop the title so...

Sif gives her a sheepish smile, because she knows that, but it always takes her a while to get back into the habit when she's here. "Of course, Ororo, my apologies. I have gotten out of the habit of this custom. How are you? Did you have an enjoyable respite from your studies?"
