SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

Careful. Think the Guidance Counselor is eyeing you very intently at the moment. Abort, abort.

[ Natasha mutters it under her breath as she comes up beside him, a playful grin lingering on her lips as she reaches out to steal a cookie from the snakc table. ]

[With a flourish of his hand, the bottle disappeared within his coat again, probably blocked from view of the guidance counsellor or he would already be in a heap of trouble. That is, assuming, she wasn't playing him. Instead, he made to pour himself and Natasha glasses of punch and turned to face her with a grin, holding out her glass.]

Much appreciated, Tasha. Glad to be back?

[spiderette]

Oh you have no idea. [ She accepts the glass of punch with a relieved grin, glancing over her shoulder to see if they were in the clear yet. Nope. Still being watched like a hawk. ]

I thought I was going to die of boredom. What about you? How are the Vikings?

[mischiefandlies]

[He chuckled and swirled his glass before taking a sip. It'd be so much better with vodka. Alas. He shrugged lightly and nodded for them to start venturing away from the punch bowl. He'd have to sneak up again later.]

Was it that bad? Who knew most of us would be thrilled to see school start again? [He paused and thought about it for a moment.] No clue. Didn't go home this time. Mother "called" frequently, and pined, but I heard not a peep from Father, as expected. [And by 'called', those that knew him like Natasha did, knew that meant she'd telepathically projected herself across the realms. He was finally good enough he could return her 'calls'.]

So what was so bad about your vacation?

[spiderette]

Oh that's right, you stayed here this year, didn't you? [ She looks surprised a moment as she pondered that realization. ]

Did you stay here or with Billy or something? [ Since those two were typically attached at the hip. ] Did Thor stay too or did you get to brave the wilds of Midgard on your own?

[ It always amused her that she'd somehow ended up friends with Norse gods from outer space. Or something. ]

It wasn't much of a vacation, is all. Dad spent most of it working, so I pretty much spent the whole time being a slug in my house. [ Worse than exile, in her opinion. ]

[mischiefandlies]

Stayed here. [He would never subject Billy's family to him, even if the other teen insisted. Things were rough enough on Billy as it was. But then he scoffs and rolls his eyes.] I think my dear brother has taken it upon himself to appoint himself as my unofficial babysitter. How outlandish is that? We may appear young by Midgard standards, but I assure you, I am quite old enough to remain 'home alone'. Thor probably thinks I will 'go darkside' if left to my own devices.

[But he's ranting and he contains it shortly there after, sending a glance back to Natasha with a sympathetic smile. Something he'd picked from Billy.] He should have found time for you. Next time, I'll be sure to 'call' you and keep you company. Such lovely house-slugs shouldn't be left to the terrible tortures of boredom. [Much worse than exile. His smile turned to a playful grin as he teased to lighten the mood.]

Please tell me you found all sorts of interesting things to do at least? What even goes on here during the summer? [ She glanced around curiously, as if trying to imagine it. Then she scoffs, grinning at him playfully. ] And you? Needing a babysitter? The very idea!

It was truly terrible. [ She sighs mournfully and thumps her head against his shoulder. ] I've almost forgot what it feels like to party. Help.

I spent most of it learning. [He paused, letting that sink in, knowing she either wouldn't buy it or know there was more to it.] Magic, of course. If I don't keep a leg up on Kaplan, the crafty little mortal might actually surpass me. [In his three years here, he'd changed considerably. A rivalry like that used to make him venomous. Or maybe it was the fact that it was Billy that he didn't take it as a personal affront.] What usually goes on here over the summer seems to be the option for summer classes, clubs or activities, and optional Danger Room drills. I don't know, joining SHIELD after this year is over doesn't sound half bad if it's always this exciting. [Read that as: because he'd rather not go back home.]

[Her head hits his shoulder and he stiffens momentarily, reaching up awkwardly to pet her hair, not really sure what else to do.] Well, we will have to rectify that, won't we? [Even if she can't see the grin on his face, she should be able to hear it in his voice.] Allow me to remind you what a party is supposed to be like around 2100 hours tonight. Our dorm. Billy's treat. How's that for help?

Oooh, you might stay? [ Her expression brightens at that, because she's been trying very hard not to think about the fact that most of her friends were fourth years and her time with them was limited.

She does hear his grin and returns it, tilting her head back to smirk up at him. ]

You're a lifesaver. I knew I could count on you.

[mischiefandlies]

There is a strong possibility. [And now that he's said it, he knows he actually can't not do it, because that bright smile was just too much. Even if it isn't to join SHIELD, he'll still hang back a while.]

Always. Never doubt my ability to break school rules for fun.

[ She's delighted. And hugs him again. Just because. Also the constipated look he gets every time she does is still hilarious. ]

This place would be awful without my favorite Cactus, after all. What on earth would I do with all the empty hours in my day? No one else is as good at breaking rules with me. You have no idea how long it'll take me to train someone new. So much effort.
