[Mingle-Log] Only non-alcoholic beverages in the punch bowl...

[This is an open mingle log. You do not have to be part of the community to post in this thread. Consider it a test-drive of sorts to get your voice or meet new characters!]

SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

[The trickster's finally a king! Well, a king in the sense of being a senior in the Academy. Beyond that, though, he's still everyone's favourite ~~annoyance~~ trickster.

He leans against one of the refreshment tables with a small grin in place as he looks out at all the new ~~victims~~ faces. He is definitely going to leave a lasting impression this year. However, when told not to do something, he has a tendency to want to do it. So when he was told not to slip vodka into the punch bowl, well... Someone can catch him or just bump into him for a chat!]

Katherine stared out at the auditorium, a bored look on her face. She didn't understand why they insisted on throwing a Welcome party every year. At least she was an upper class-man this year, and she had to put in an appearance, no matter how boring these parties were.

Hannibal Lecter shifted his small pack to the other shoulder as he looked around the room. So this was his new home. When it came to the Academy and how it had been touted to him, Hannibal hadn't grown to like or dislike it. It was a place like any other that he would be at no matter how he felt on the matter.

Unlike some of the other new students, it wasn't a lack of courage that held Hannibal back from joining the fray but a need to study before entering. His maroon eyes moved over the other faces, memorizing them to judge them. He wandered from there towards the table of pamphlets and signup sheets, reading them over for anything that might spark his interest.

Don't even think about it. [Suddenly Billy is behind his friend. He knows what you're trying to do, Loki. ]

[And there's that cat that swallowed the canary look as he whirls on Billy, tucking the bottle behind his back and shrugging lightly.] Think about what? Oh, have you been working on mind-reading skills while we've been on break?

[He tries to play innocent, but he's Loki... Innocent is a thing that just... doesn't happen with him.]

[Billy rolls his eyes, but he's amused.] The sad thing is I don't actually need to be a mind reader to know exactly what you're up to. [And that's why he's been on the unofficial watch Loki committee since their second year. Really he didn't sign up for this job, since there were definitely times he only encouraged his friend. ] Please don't get the fourteen year olds drunk, save it for the third and fourth years.

[Funny how Billy is his conscience and he actually openly recognises this without issue. He lets his arms drop to his sides, holding the bottle by the cap before flipping it up and catching it by the neck. He then holds it out to Billy.] You have a certain third year in mind? Hmm?

[He wiggles the bottle back and forth, sloshing the liquid, enticing Billy to take it.] I'll concede to your terms. But that merely means you owe me a party since you crashed mine.

Hannibal wasn't the only one studying the other students from afar before approaching. Something about Hannibal caught his attention and he wasn't quite sure what. Whether it was the unease he felt that another student was equally keen on observing yet not being observed or the fact that he actually seemed to be succeeding in his endeavour.

Stefan walked up beside him, reaching for the same pamphlet Hannibal had picked up. "Huh. Interesting subject. Are you into the culinary arts?" He asked as he eyed the pamphlet for cooking enthusiasts.

That same half-second pause followed before Hannibal reacted to Stefan's presence. His fingers loosened on the paper, letting it be taken from him if Stefan cared to give it a good look over. If he knew that his trick of blending into the background had been noticed, his reaction might have been more wary. Predators often recognized each other.

"I've learned a few things while I was in France. It seems more interesting than some of the others offered."

His words are carefully spoken, well aware that his accent does tend to make understanding him difficult for some. His eyes briefly linger on the fencing club, but he doubted the rules were the same from what Lady Murasaki taught him. Only then does he turn his head to take in Stefan himself.

"Have you been here before and heard anything of it?"

Someone not-new would be useful, although the reverse could be true as well in Hannibal's mind.

There were some people that the class divisions didn't matter to. One of those was, unfortunately, Jack Harkness. He saw a pretty or handsome face, and there he was. Meet-and-greets were his favorite sporting event.

"Well, hello there."

Movie star smile in place, Jack wasn't shy about looking her over and liking what he saw. Why be coy? He never saw the use in it. It cut out a lot of awkward fumbling in his opinion.

"I'm Captain Jack Harkness."

Just what he was captain of was anyone's guess.

Stef cut a quick side-glance to Hannibal's expression when the other's fingers loosened on the paper, but he let his own drop away entirely, surrendering it to Hannibal. He wasn't truly interested in the pamphlet itself. He was more interested in the person holding it at the moment.

The accent wasn't quite expected, but it didn't seem to jar him too much. The only noticeable reaction was a slight lift of his eyebrows before his expression relaxed again. "France? That's pretty impressive. Maybe you should host the club yourself?"

Stefan hesitated half a beat too long before answering that last question. "Uh, no. Sorry. Can't say that I've heard much, actually. I'm pretty new to the area--just moved here." He offered a slightly helpless shrug in response.

[Billy rolls his eyes and grabs the bottle from his friend. Loki knows exactly who he has in mind. ] I'm not going to encourage anyone to get drunk. [Excpet maybe himself? ]

You mean like the after party I know you've already planned in our rooms?

Katherine couldn't help the smirk that came to her lips. She looked the boy over, he wasn't bad looking, a little bit of a boyish grin that promised some mischief. She could definitely work with that.

"Captain of what?" She raised an eyebrow at him.

Allison's pleased to have survived her first year. She is, of course, keen on establishing an archery club. Not everyone trains with this weapon, and she supposes it would be nice to have some recreational activities along with the usual school stuff.

You'll find her handing out pamphlets and gathering signatures and email addresses before she takes it to the officials.

As a returning third year, Natasha's a little less impressed by the surroundings than she had been her first time around but still no less excited to be here. As much as she loves summers and spending a few months with her dad, she loves being here, being around her friends all the time. Even if there is homework involved, which she could honestly do with less of, but who couldn't?

She's got herself a drink and a plate of snacks balanced on her knee as she'd been lucky enough to nab one of the chairs lining the edges of the room. Which gives her an awesome location to scope out all the ~~fresh meat~~ new students who were busy orienting themselves for what was probably going to be one of the craziest years of their lives.

Her roommate last year had been a psychic. She knew this for a fact.

And when she's not sitting and watching, she's up and bouncing between the crowds of new and returning students, catching up with friends she hasn't seen in too long and meeting the new ones that seemed interesting enough to catch her eye. She's friendly and laughing, thoroughly enjoying playing the social butterfly. Maybe this year she'll make some friends who don't treat the word 'party' like a bad word and remember to drag their noses out of their books once in a while...

"Hey!" Gwen said smiling brightly at Natasha as she took a seat next to her friend, her own plate of food and drink in hand. It had been a nice summer but she was glad to be back at school, for her friends and the actual school part.

"How was your summer?"

"Natasha?"

Bucky couldn't remember her last name; it had been years-- since seventh grade-- and after he'd gotten grounded and been unable to show up for the date he'd asked her on (and his phone had been unfairly taken away from him, so he couldn't even text her) he'd been too embarrassed to talk to her again. And it hadn't really mattered too much; by the time he'd asked her on a date, and she'd said yes, it was towards the end of the school year, and she'd moved away.

He half-hoped she wouldn't remember that.

He was taller than he had been in seventh grade, and still growing like a weed. He'd already filled out a little, in between growth spurts, but that wouldn't last.

Kate, in turn, was moving into her third year, so she was making her way around rather confidently, greeting old friends and finding her bearings once again. The idea of an archery club caught her eye, though; considering she had little experience in it herself, she couldn't help but really like the idea.

Accepting one of the pamphlets with a smile, Kate pages through it, her eyes drifting quickly over the words. "This is a really great idea. You think they'll go for it?"

Although Myka is a fourth year, her familiarity with the campus and student body hasn't made her all that outgoing. In reality, she is happy to be back after the break; there is only so long she can listen to Tracy talk about cheerleading or school dances, and only so long she can tolerate her father grumping around and acting like nothing she does is good enough. Being back at the Academy is a breath of fresh air in comparison, but one wouldn't think so just by looking at her.

For the time being, Myka is curled up in a seat in the corner of the auditorium, an open book in her lap and her glasses perched on the end of her nose as she leisurely pages through the tome in front of her.

Bobbi is, first and foremost, a scientist a heart, an ace student, and an excellent researcher for someone so young. (Not to mention a competitive gymnast.) When it was time for her the other year to finally make a decision on her future, she chose the academy over the science high school, deciding to find a customized balance between academics and training.

Home is home. She remains distant from her family, her brother, and is honestly happy to be back at school.

Bobbi is, as always, a mix between nice and intimidating, slowly making rounds about the room.

"Thanks!" Allison says brightly in response, turning a dimpled grin onto Kate, hugging the clipboard and papers to her chest. Missing her family was always rough but diving into school and activities helps, which is why she's so prepared today.

"I don't see why they wouldn't," she continues honestly, shrugging a shoulder. "Just because it isn't your chosen weapon doesn't mean you can't learn how to do it for fun. Maybe we can even do competition."

"And it might even prove to be useful at some point, anyway," Kate muses, finishing the pamphlet quickly before folding it up and putting it in her pocket. For Kate, it would at least give her something to learn other than hand-to-hand combat.

"Well, where do I sign up?"

Glad to see we're on the same page. [Loki's grin was devilish, but he shrugged when the bottle was grabbed, letting his hands fall back to his sides.]

And by all means, don't forget to invite your Teddybear. [He winked playfully.] And if you need a little private time, I picked up a nice little 'silence' spell to isolate your room, if you catch my drift.

Bucky has taken an entire bowl of pretzels.

It's his first year here, though he's a sophomore; he'd rather not talk about freshman year, but then, most freshman years are rough, right?

The bowl of pretzels is placed down beside Myka, and Bucky sits in the seat on the other side of the pretzels, giving her space, but clearly curious about her. He knows better than to interrupt a woman reading, though-- it's rude as hell-- so he tries to not be too overt about his curiosity about the person reading in a deafeningly loud room.

"My last school did not throw parties to start the school year."

The teenager has to be sixteen at most-- definitely not an upperclassman-- but he doesn't seem too uncertain about talking to a girl who is clearly older than him.

"I mean when the year is out, sure, but nothing this sized."

Bucky gives a little smile at Katherine, gauging her reaction.
