SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

Wanda was awash in new faces. She had lost track of her brother shortly after entering the auditorium (unsurprisingly), and now she was wandering around, alone and more than a bit uncomfortable in the crowed. Picking up, then putting down pamphlets without reading them. Sticking near the walls, her eyes were wide and scanning.

There had to be somebody friendly here... right?

Friendly? Yeah, sure, we can go with that. Loki spotted a new face and that face... reminded him strikingly of a deer caught in headlights. Despite that, she looked interesting as compared to the rest in the room. He didn't mingle much with other years, but certain interesting cases helped him break his pattern.

He came up behind her, but didn't touch her. You never knew how some of these people would react or with what kind of defences they would react, so it was always best to be safe.

"Don't look so lost. The local predators prey on confused victims."

Wanda stiffened, the briefest of hex auras shining around her before she reined it back in.

"... I don't know how. I am lost." She turned around to see who she was talking to. A nice looking young man, to be sure. "There are... so many new people here. And my brother ran off and abandoned me."

Loki didn't really look too startled by her momentary loss of control, though it intrigued him further. He shrugged the thought off, filing it away for later contemplation. Right now, he could be a gentleman and keep the lovely doe safe from lurking predators. Because he wasn't one of them. At least he wasn't someone she had to worry about. Much.

"That wasn't very brotherly of him, now was it? My brother is around here somewhere as well. Allow me to accompany you until yours is located." He smiled quite pleasantly. "I'm Loki Odinson. I can show you around the new faces... or we can avoid them entirely. Whatever you're more comfortable with."

"... Wanda Maximoff." She had a halting way of speaking, as if she was thinking very hard before everything she said. "I'm... fine with seeing the new faces. I'm just not very good at... talking with them. Oh. Nice to meet you." She added, hurriedly, not wanting to appear rude.

"It's a pleasure, Miss Maximoff." Where she spoke very hesitantly, he spoke quite fluidly. Everything he said was worded deliberately the way it was spoken and often times could have hidden meanings, but as for right now, he was being mostly genuine. As genuine as Loki could be with anyone he didn't know.

"You're not entirely social, are you? Not to worry, if anyone bothers you or puts you on edge, I don't mind playing defence for you."

"I'm afraid I come from a rather... sheltered home life. I like the idea of-- being social. I'm... just not very good at it." A small, grateful smile pulled at the edges of her mouth. "Thank you, for your offer, though. ... It's very kind of you."

Tommy had heard the gossip over the summer while he lived at the school about his biological mother and her twin coming to the school as students because of some kind of spell. Considering she'd been missing for a long time before then it had made his heart leap in his chest that she'd shown up, of course then he found out she was younger than him and Billy had crushed his hopes of meeting her.

He'd been determined to stay away from her and his uncle as much as possible, but then there's a girl who looks impossibly like a girl version of Billy, albeit with more magenta and wilder fashion sense, and she looks nervous and alone, and he can't help dashing across the room to stand in front of her.

"Hi."

"Don't leave me like that ag-" She turned, hissing at him, before stopping abruptly. She had assumed, given the suddenness of the arrival, and the white hair, that she had been snapping at her brother. A closer inspection revealed that to not be the case. Still, he looked unsettlingly familar.

"Oh! ... I'm-- I'm sorry! I thought-- I'm sorry." She fumbled, verbally.

Thought he was Pietro Maximoff, whose name Tommy shouldn't really know because he doesn't know either of them, so he keeps his mouth shut about the specifics.

"It's no big deal. I'm Tommy-Tommy Shepherd." His foot vibrates up and down on the ground in a constant noise. "You're new this year, right?"

"Wanda Maximoff. Nice to meet you." Her eyes glance down at his vibrating foot. God. He really WAS like Pietro. Curiosity swirled in her head, but she held on to it, for the moment. "I am. ... It's horribly obvious, isn't it?"

"Yeah, you looked pretty lost." Reassurance isn't exactly Tommy's strong suit, so he doesn't usually even try. However, Wanda's kind of special case even if she doesn't know it.

"That's not a big deal though. I mean, sometimes I go through a wall and get lost myself."

[maximoff_girl]

"Ugh, if I could go through walls, I'd be even more lost." Oh GOOD, he was a mutant. Or at least had some sort of powers. Magneto's lessons were all still very fresh in her head, and she was much more comfortable with mutants. "This place is-- huge! And I only know a handful of people."

Billy was trying to be welcome to new students, especially new students who looked so very lost as the gazed around the auditorium.

Billy smiled at her as he approached, holding out an extra cup of punch. "Hi, you look lost, and new. I'm Billy."

"I am... both of those things. Thank you." She accepted the punch, with a grateful smile. "I'm Wanda. You're... not new here?" She inquired generally, wondering if maybe he could tell her a bit more about this place.

Billy shook his head. "Nah, been here for four years now. It can be overwhelming at first, but you get used to it." He grinned at her. "Where you from?"

"... Poland, originally. But I grew up mostly in New York. ... Does it ever stop being so... full of people?" She raised her eyebrows, indicating the bustling auditorium, and it's continual ebb and flow of bodies.

"I grew up in New York too," Billy said, it was always exciting to meet a fellow New Yorker. "Not really? But we do kinda of tend to spread out when school actually starts so it feels a little less full."

She nods, accepting. "... That'll be better. There's just-- so many people right here.

"Is the school... easy? Or is it.. I've never gone to school before. I'm not sure what to expect."

Ororo was looking out especially for new faces in the crowd today. The whole point of the night was to welcome them to what had become her home for the last couple of years, right? So when she notices one girl looking, well, a little bit lost, Ororo doesn't hesitate to approach her with a small smile.

"... I normally offer newcomers a pamphlet or two, but it looks like you've gone through most of them."

Wanda looks up a little bit startled, but the expression quickly turns to 'greatful,' instead. Another girl! Wanda found other girls much less intimidating than-- anything else. Now, if only she were a mutant...

"Yeah. ... They're not really all that helpful anyway."

"No?" Ororo frowns, looking down at the pamphlets she had in her own hand. "I thought we'd covered enough of the basics in them when we put them together last time..." She gives a little sigh, tucking them away for now. "Back to the drawing board for these, I guess."

"If you have any questions though, I'd be happy to field them for you, if you like. You're new here, aren't you?"

"Oh! I'm-- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to... I'm sure they're very useful! I just-- I haven't read any of them and. ... Um. ... Yeah. I'm new. I'm sorry." Wanda flushed bright red. Waaaaay to go, there. Insulting the work of the first potential friend you meet. A+ work, there.

"No, it's fine! There's no need to apologize." Ororo chuckled and shook her head. "I was really nervous my first year here too, so I know the feeling. It's okay."

"I'm Ororo, by the way. Senior." She held out a hand. "You?"

"Wanda. Um. Third year. The one before Senior." She can't quite remember the name for it, right now. "But this is still my first time-- here. Or... at an school, actually." She looks minorly concerned, about that.
