SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

Jean shook his hand, grateful to have navigated her way out of the social Sahara.

"It's nice to meet you, Bucky." Jean smiled genuinely, "fresh meat? I thought you were an upper classman."

{Well, he might not be as familiar with the school as I was hoping, but he seems nice enough. At least now I have someone in the boat with me.}

"Nah, I'm only a second year, but I wasn't here last year." My uncle wouldn't let me have mail then.  "So I'm as new as you are, really. Though high school is high school, and if you want advice with that, I can butcher a bit of that."  

He gave a shrug, amused.  He gestured to her stack of supplies. "You want me too hold any of that for you?"

"That's really nice of you but you don't have to do that." Jean said. Flattered as she was by the offer, she didn't want to make her one new friend pay for her foolishness. Besides, if her arms got tired she could always carry her books the other way.

"So what made you transfer?" She had been told that this was a school for the gifted and she was eager to learn if there were other students with powers, like her.

Bucky shrugged. The truth was that he would have started here, last year; this would have been his second year here, instead of second year in high school, if his uncle hadn't been... difficult about contact with the outside world.

"Because it seemed like a better place than where I was," he replied, as honestly as he could. "But as far as-- as all the fancy stuff, I don't know. Something about enhanced physioblah." He shrugged. No one had explained it to him, and SHIELD wasn't forthcoming. Yet.

She could tell there was a story there, but Jean didn't want to pry. Bucky seemed like a nice guy and his business was his own.

"So..." she said awkwardly, fishing for a more comfortable subject, "What sort of things do you like to do Bucky?"
