SHIELD Academy
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

Well hello to you too, Maria. Please, help yourself to one of my sandwiches, I totally wasn't going to eat that.

[ Have the most sarcastic retort an amused Natasha can muster as she arches an eyebrow at the other girl, doing her best to hide a laugh. ]

No wonder it called to me.

( Don't mind her while she just enjoys that sandwich for the moment. At least the 'party' has good food. See, it's better than an actual party they don't feed you )

[ Natasha rolls her eyes and huffs out a long-suffering sigh. ]

Fine. Tyrant. How was your summer? Hopefully it was more interesting than mine.

[lacksguidance]

It was quiet.

( And that is why she enjoyed it. She may have not enjoyed family time as much as Natasha did, but it was nice seeing Chicago again, and not having certain people push her to party. Or get laid )

And I liked it.

[ Natasha just groans, facepalming in fond exasperation. ]

You are legitimately the most boring teenager ever. That sounds like the worst summer ever. Don't worry. You're back now. I'll fix it.

I didn't say that I didn't do anything.

( She didn't just sit in a chair all summer and do nothing, gosh. Yes she read and did her usual swimming and running but there may have been shopping involved. Coffee. Maybe a summer job. Not a hopeless cause )

And why do you hate me being happy?

I don't hate you being happy, I just sincerely doubt you'd actually be happy if left to your own devices because you'd just forget there are other people here and hide in your books all day long.

[lacksguidance]

I don't read all day.

( There may have been instances of sitting on a park bench and reading but she'd been enjoying the sun too. And that wasn't every day )

But thanks for raining on my summer.

I meant here. [ Natasha gives her a wry look. ] Summer's are totally different. It's not like I have all that much to brag about either. Mine was definitely quiet unless you count all the well-intentioned lectures my dad had stored up from an entire year apart.

Yeah, because that's such a hardship.

( Maybe lectures weren't what anyone wanted but it was a lot more attention than Maria ever got when she was back home, and the rest of the relationship between Natasha and her dad sounded great. She was definitely a bit bitter about that, and would rather stay at the academy than go home over summer - not because she wanted to stay and study but it was a lot nicer place to be )

And you bugging me every year isn't going to change anything.

[ Natasha hid a wince, because Maria's home life was always a bit of a touchy subject. Instead, she tossed an arm around the girl's shoulder in a one-sided hug. ] Maybe next summer, you can come and stay with me for some of it? Then both our problems will be solved.

[lacksguidance]

( Maria gives her a small nod at that. It would definitely be nice and would take some of the monotony, and sadness, out of what she usually went back to. Not that they'd probably be able to spend longer than a week of summer together before Maria wanted to kill Natasha, but it would be a good week )

We've got to get through the year first.

( Although Maria says that as if there's any doubt they'd be able to. If she hadn't been able to shake Natasha and her constant following and somehow given friendship despite Maria's initial rejection of it? Then they'd do fine now. Maria actually liked Natasha now )

So how many days do I get free?

( You know what she's asking. Don't play coy )

[ Natasha adopts an innocent expression, as if she has no idea what the other girl is talking about. ]

( There's a sigh at that response, a slight tipping of Maria's head )

You know what I'm talking about, and I'm going to guess there isn't any.

( Why oh why could Natasha ever leave her alone to just live her life as she did )

[ Natasha just laughs and slings an arm around Maria's shoulders. ]

Still have no idea. I'm just here to make sure you have an awesome year and that you don't spend all day every day with your nose buried in a book.
