SHIELD Academy
Open House

Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.

Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

"The people who came to my house after I..." He gives her a shifty look, or as shifty as a shy and extremely homesick geek can manage anyway. "I hacked into things I shouldn't have hacked into and they said I could come here or I could go with the police."

"Ooooh, a hacker?" Natasha looks delighted. "Awesome, I always love bumping into others. What'd you hack? Spill, spill."

He looks utterly surprised at her enthusiasm. It hasn't exactly been seen as a good thing by anyone else. Well, the people who'd brought him here had seemed interested, but not really in a way that he'd deemed friendly.

"You are too?" he asked hesitantly. "I mean... I wasn't trying to cause any damage, or even look at stuff! It was just sort of there. I think I hacked SHIELD."

Her eyes go wide at that and her mouth drops open a little. "You hacked into SHIELD? Seriously?" she asked, her voice dropping to a hushed whisper. "Dude, that's amazing."

He gave her a thoroughly miserable and panicked look when she said that. "I didn't mean to!" he said earnestly. "I didn't even realise what it was until they showed up."

Natasha laughs and reaches out to ruffle his hair fondly. "Don't look so terrified, kid. That's an impressive feat to have pulled here. I only know of one or two others than can claim anything remotely similar."

She had, and Tony had, but that'd only been once they were here and had known SHIELD was actually a thing.

"Besides, for a school, this place is pretty awesome. You might actually like it here. It's not what you'd expect."

He gives her a surprised (and faintly reproachful) look when she ruffles his hair. He's not a kid damn it! "Yeah and it almost got me arrested. I'm pretty sure they just wanted me here to make sure Kevin came too."

Kevin with the special abilities and actual talent.

He shrugs at that, looking thoroughly sceptical. "Bet they still send reports home about how I'm failing French."

She shakes her head at that. "Nope. No reports sent home. They're very strict about that. Trust me my dad wasn't thrilled when he learned he couldn't keep tabs on my grades except through me, but the administration thinks it helps with the pressure on us. Since we already have plenty. Personally I think it's brilliant of them. Also why on earth are you failing French? Besides, you can't be failing it yet, it hasn't even started."

Sam gives her a sceptical look. "What, really? They're not gonna call home? Neither of them are gonna like that. Mum likes to keep up with Kevin's grades and his cello practice and dad..." Likes telling him that he's dishonouring the family. Fun.

"Because I'm pretty awful at French? I mean, I was failing it back at home."

"If they wanna keep up with that stuff, then they can get it directly from you, or not at all. The school isn't obligated to pass anything on to them except for reassurances of your continued good health," Natasha grins. "Awesome, huh? And wow, that sucks. Why don't you try something different then? Although there's probably plenty of people here who can help you out of you wanna keep trying for it."

That is pretty amazing news. Also terrifying because he can imagine the phone calls now. Maybe he can avoid saying much about his grades. Or what classes he's going to take. "I'm not really interested in languages. That's my brother's deal. I can't even keep up with Chinese."

He grins though, feeling a bit relieved. "I just like computers really, and the radio. Love the radio."
