Suite 12 - Back to School

Summary: It's back to school time! Time to meet those roomies again.



Teddy flopped on his bed the moment he finished unpacking. Damn, he missed this place. He didn't realize just how much until mid July. That's when the summer was starting to become unbearable and he was itching to just get back here. No one asked him questions, no one held anything over his head or told him he was an alien freak. He was around others just like him and that made such a difference that a weight felt as though it was lifted off of his shoulders.

He stared up at the ceiling for a minute, happy to see that his glow in the dark stars had made it through a summer of re-painting the dorms, before he stood up and walked into the common area. He sat down on the couch and fiddled with the tv, waiting to see which one of his roommates would show up first. Whoever it was, he was sure to lend a helping hand.

"Done and done, boyyo. But good to know the mossbacks are so obliging, though. The name's Pietro." He jutted his chin out, about half challenging, half up-nod greeting.

Teddy noticed that Pietro didn't take his hand. Hm. He was going to be a bit more difficult than Teddy first thought, not to mention he wasn't entirely sure of 'mossbacks' was an insult or not. Still, he wasn't looking to start the school year off at odds with one of his roommates. He'd had enough of tense living arrangements. School was his retreat, if you could imagine that.

He put his hand down and continued to smile, standing his ground at the way Pietro sized him up. Teddy might be kind but he didn't roll over. "Nice to meet you. So, I'm going to take a wild guess that if you were able to set up in a split second you must have speed as your power."

Pietro grinned. "Oh, I do love it when I don't have to explain everything to people." Not that he would say as much, but so far, Teddy was earning points in his book. "What about you? Human? Mutant? Mermaid? What can I expect from the be-all of 'Teddy'?"

Teddy didn't like talking about his powers, especially the ones that outed him as being something other than human, but there was one he couldn't hide. Instead of telling Pietro, Teddy moved back over to the couch and lifted it easily with one hand.

"I'm a bit stronger than most," he said with a shrug before putting the couch back down. "Among other things but I like to keep an air of mystery. Don't want everyone to know my cards in case they might discover my weakness."

"Hah! That's great!" Pietro brought his hands together in a single approving clap. "Always good to have a powerhouse around."

Though now he was curious about what 'other things' might be. Was Teddy lying, to make himself seem more powerful? If not, what were his other powers. Why would he keep them secret.

Pietro loved a good mystery. They gave him something to think about in the indeterminately long, boring stretches of time.

"It's my first year here, and I've gotta say-- you're the least boring person I've met so far. Do we have other roommates, yet?"

"Least boring and not most interesting," Teddy laughed. "You know, I can't tell if you're giving me a compliment or taking a jab. But thanks, anyway. If you need any help with anything heavy, let me know. I'll help you out in a pinch."

Teddy motioned to the other two rooms off to the side. "Sam and Daken are around. I'm sure you'll meet them soon enough. They're nice guys. I think you'll find them both less boring than I am."

"Eh. A little of column A, a little of column B. I've been told I'm an asshole, and I tend to believe it," he shrugged, as if to say 'nothing to do be done about it'. "'Sam and Daken'. Are they return students, like you, or newcomers like me?"

[hulk_ling]

"Honesty. I'll take an honest asshole over a dishonest one," Teddy remarked. "Sam's been here but this is my first year rooming with him. Daken is new just like you. So, this should be interesting. I hope you don't mind video games and movies. It's kind of my thing."

[maximoff_boy]

"Then we should get along just fine. So long as you don't mind losing ad nauseam at whatever video game we play." He grinned that obnoxious grin of his again.

[hulk_ling]

"That sounds like a challenge," Teddy said with a grin. "You know, I think I'll accept that challenge. I'm pretty good. Call it years of a misspent youth in front of a television."

[maximoff_boy]

"'Misspent' is in the eyes of the beholder. So long as you can do one thing better than anyone else, you're ahead of most people in life. You just better hope it's not 'video games' because I am going to school your ass."

[hulk_ling]

"Oh, are you?" Teddy grinned. He could already tell that he was going to get along with Pietro if for nothing more than the soon to be epic Halo tournaments that were about to take place.

"Well, smart guy, since you're already unpacked why not play a round or two? I promise to be gentle. It is your first day, after all."

[maximoff_boy]

Pietro batted his eyelashes playfully at Teddy, before laughing. "Such a gentleman! Your mother must be proud. C'mon, what are we playing?"

[hulk_ling]

"Yeah, Mom raised me right."

There was a touch of sadness in his voice but it was easily brushed away as Teddy walked over to the television, pulling out the game console. "Only the best selection. Halo, Call of Duty, Team Fortress - what are you feeling?"

At some point, they're going to have to share I-watched-my-mother-burn stories, though at least for Pietro, it's been longer and is not so fresh in the memory. For now, though, he moves past it, as if nothing was said.

"Which ever one you're best at, I've never played any of them."

[hulk_ling]

"You've never played them?" Teddy asked, raising an eyebrow. "More of an old school gamer, then? I have a Super Nintendo in my room. I can bring it out here and hook it up if you're interested in some Street Fighter."

[maximoff_boy]

"Naw," He waved the question and offer off with a flippant hand. "I've just got a weird time warp thing going on in my life right now. Doesn't matter though, I'll figure any game out, and still school you. C'mon. I want a challenge!"

[hulk_ling]

Teddy wanted to ask about what a 'weird time warp thing' was exactly but he didn't press it. If Pietro wanted to expand on it, he would. Besides, there were a lot of 'weird' things going on in Teddy's life that he really didn't want to share and asking usually opened yourself up to a return question. Safer to let answers come out naturally.

"So confident," Teddy smirked. "If it's a challenge you want, a challenge you'll get, my friend. How about a little Halo? You look like a FPS kind of guy."

Teddy sat down and set up the game console, handing one of the controllers to Pietro. "The joystick moves your guy on screen," he instructed. "The buttons control when to fire and to swap between weapons. It takes a bit of coordination but you'll pick it up pretty fast."

"I pick up everything fast," he said, taking in everything Teddy said, while experimentally moving his fingers around to try the various buttons out. "This controller is huge."
