[Mingle-Log] Only non-alcoholic beverages in the punch bowl...
[This is an open mingle log. You do not have to be part of the community to post in this thread. Consider it a test-drive of sorts to get your voice or meet new characters!]
Open House
Everyone is congregated in the spacious auditorium of the SHIELD Academy. The noise level is probably a decibel below deafening and the lights are probably a little dimmer than what might seem normal for this time in the evening, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone as they just carry on. There are banners strewn about welcoming all first years to a new chapter in their lives while others welcome the others back for another year at the Academy. Refreshments are served up on stage while other tables set up around the massive room are home to pamphlets and flyers for clubs and classes. Special electives and advertisements for training sessions are also littered amongst the tables.
Make a few friends, find old ones, look into clubs that catch your interest. This is open house for all returning students and prospective students, so hang out, hit up others and just mingle!

"I'm still scoping, but there's at least one new girl I saw who pretty much radiated Mathletes. No bites for Science Club yet. How was your vacay? Did you go back to Russia?"
no subject
"No, not this year. My dad was pretty busy with work most of the summer, but at least I got to tag along on one of his trips and got to spend a few weeks in Spain. Otherwise I was bored to tears at home the whole time," she confides with a mournful sigh, then let her lips quirk back up in a crooked smile. "What about you? Do anything interesting?"
no subject
Her smile tightens briefly around the edges before relaxing. "I think I may end up being able to talk my parents into letting me go to Paris or London over the next break, though." she says. "I'm going to see who here may have a place I can stay. Not that money's an issue, but if I can tell them I'm staying with friends instead of some gross hostel or overly expensive hotel, it might make them more amenable.
What she doesn't say is that she fully plans to use their guilt over the divorce and forcing her to choose between them as a means to fund this adventure.
Her eyes brighten as she moves onto other topics. "So hey, did you meet any good potentials I can give a flier to? Oh, and Billy and Tommy and Loki are having an after-party party in their room after this. I hear they're gonna have a keg." The last word is mouthed silently, because of reasons. "Are you going?"
Of course if there's a party going on, Lydia's going to know about it.

Natasha's expression also brightens at the mention of the after party. "Oh thank god. I was hoping someone would plan something. Loki was trying to spike the punch earlier, but the adults are guarding it like a bunch of hawks. I wouldn't miss it."
"Although no, I haven't had a chance to meet many of the new kids. There seems to be a bunch of them, though."

"Well, there's always going to be a crop of incoming freshmen, aren't there? And some of them are kind of cute." Lydia observation is absently offered, adding, "But there are some new faces in the higher grades too, spot anyone worth getting to know yet?"
no subject
"Hmm, maybe one or two. Give me a few days to investigate and I'll get back to you on that," she adds with a wink. "I have noticed a few new students in the upper years this year. That's a bit unusual, but I'm hardly going to complain about it."
no subject
"That would be absolutely amazing. Let me know once you find out and I will immediately start applying the parental pressure." Maybe she can talk to Allison about it too; she's got family in France as well.
no subject
"And I will. It'd certainly be an improvement to exploring it on my own."

Natasha had a tendency to pick up strays along the way. It was occasionally a bad habit, but usually she enjoyed it.
"Good luck with your fliers! If I stumble across any geniuses, I'll shoo them your way."
